Dr Shahid Tariq

Chair


Dr Tariq works in the NHS Northern Ireland as a consultant anaesthetist and an Associate Medical Director. His special interests are Paediatric Anaesthesia and Patient Safety.


Dr Tariq has been an active member of Overseas Plastic Surgery Appeal (a UK based medical charity). From 2004 onwards, he has participated in OPSA cleft surgery camps in Pakistan once a year. On a professional level, this affords him the chance to practice paediatric anaesthesia in an environment with very limited resources including untrained staff, poor monitoring, and limited availability of anaesthetic drugs



Ajaz Chaudhri

Trustee

Ajaz has had a career spanning nearly 40 years in Civil Engineering working for both the public and private sector. He is a Chartered Engineer , a Member of the Engineering Council and Institution of Civil Engineers. In 2000 he was made a Director of AECOM , one of the worlds largest multi disciplinary consultancy firms. He served on it’s UK & Ireland Management Board in various roles and finally as Managing Director. In 2012 he took up the post of Engineering Director, for AECOM Middle East, to deliver a series of major roads and drainage infrastructure projects in Qatar.


He has succesfully led teams through periods of mergers and acquisitions and has proven management and strong commercial acumen with a track record of robust financial management.


He developed a late interest in hiking at the ripe old age of 56 and counts his summiting of Kilimanjaro as one of his most memorable achievements.



Dr Ahsan Saleem

Secretary

Having graduated with a degree and doctorate in Applied Biochemistry, Dr Saleem’s career began in research and development (R&D) roles for Hoechst Pharmaceuticals, ICI’s Central  Toxicology Laboratory and the Chemical Defence Establishment. After 10 years in R&D, Dr Saleem’s interest in the impact of chemicals on human health and how to prevent and mitigate their effects, motivated his move to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the UK’s independent regulator for health and safety in the workplace. 


Dr Saleem is a Chartered Chemist and has considerable experience in risk management and building partnerships between diverse people and organisations (employers, employees, industry bodies, trade unions and academia) to deliver shared aims. 


Dr Shaheda Ahmed 

Treasurer

Dr Ahmed is a molecular biologist with expertise in skin explant assays and development of 3D tissue models. Dr Ahmed pursued her post-doctoral career at the University of Newcastle (UK) where she conducted research in graft versus host disease (GvHD). In 2009 she transitioned from academia to industry where she became a pivotal member of Alcyomics and played a direct role in supporting the advancement and development of the company.


Dr Ahmed’s key professional focus has been on providing expertise in assay development and validation to expand in the commercial sector, in addition to contributing to the R&D strategy to advance the company’s wider commercial strategy, to help support the growth and development of the business. Dr Ahmed now heads the technical teams in both departments as Scientific Manager of Alcyomics.

Dr Mobasher Choudhary 

Managing Director

Dr Choudhary is involved in family medicine. He has a keen interest in medical education and training, with over 20 years of activity in this area. He is also passionate about international health. He combines these passions through his work with INTERYem. 

Mr Waheeb Al-Azzani 

Project Co-ordinator 

Mr Al-Azzani is a graduate of Cardiff University. He completed his Academic Foundation Programme and Core Surgical Training at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. He was then selected for the Wales Orthopaedic Training Rotation. His interest are trauma surgery, sports surgery, hip and knee surgery. is also actively involved in medical education and quality improvement. 

When not working, Mr Al-Azzani is keen on hiking and climbing. He designs programmes and activities promoting healthy living for his local community.



Ms. Zinab Nagi 

Research Assistant 

Ms. Nagi studied languages and literature in Yemen, and assists in research projects of INTERYem.

Dr Wesam Al-Sakkaf

Dr Al-Sakkaf is a haematology consultant in the NHS, with special interest in lymphoma and thrombosis. He also has wide experience in general haematology and haemato- oncology. He has worked in many hospitals across the southwest of England including tertiary centres with level 3 and 4 haematology units. He is involved in training haematology specialist registrars, teaching medical students and writing local haematology protocols and guidelines.


Dr Al-Sakkaf has an interest in charity work that involves training, education and collaboration between health professionals in UK and Yemen. He is chair of the charity Professionals for Yemen, and also the chair of the Health Professionals for Yemen association.
